The Judges
Bev Best
Since his graduation from Victoria College, Bev has been a
professional photographer for the past forty-four years. He considers
photographing people the most fun and has photographed weddings, family
portraits, and thousands of school children. Bev has traveled to Europe,
Greece, Egypt, China, Brazil and the Caribbean to take architectural and
scenic photos which are another of his favourite subjects. He believes
that photography is the greatest hobby that one can have because it allows
one both to be a better observer of one's surroundings and to be creative.
Bill Kantymir
Bill Kantymir graduated
from the University of Toronto in 1959, with a BASc in Metallurgical Engineering.
He retired in 1992 as Superintendent of Operations for INCO's Port Colborne
refineries. While at University, Bill was active in the Hart House Camera
Club as well as exhibiting extensively in International Photographic Salons
during the 1960's, winning a gold and several silver and bronze medals.
Due to work, family and other constraints, such as curling, golf, Lions,
etc., he "fell out" of the main stream of photographic pursuits until
the mid-1970's when he was bitten by the infectious collecting bug. Collecting
of "photographica" (old cameras, early images and anything related to
photography) continues as a passion to this day. Bill is currently President
of the Photographic Historical Society of Canada. He is married to a very
understanding wife, Henny, and has two children, John and Mary-Ann.
Nancy Rahija
Nancy Rahija is a graduate of the Ontario College of
Art & Design, where she pursued her interest in photography and began
developing her current style of image-making. She has exhibited, most
notably in Toronto, at the Lonsdale Gallery, Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary
Photography and the Blackwood Gallery at the University of Toronto. Her
main interest is the exploration of industrial architecture. Currently,
she is focusing on freight ships, ports and waterways, creating large
colour images that bring these socially obscure sites to a broader audience.
